There is just so much to choose from in Cape Breton. Here is a list of some of our personal favorite things to experience.
This is one of the most unique places we have been at anywhere in the world. Eight charming cabins in the middle of the forest, with 25km of cross country, backcountry and telemark ski trails. The cabins have a great design are are extremely cozy with a wood stove and kerosene lamps. Relax in the wood fired sauna after a long day of skiing.
A great variety of trails awaits in Northern Cape Breton. This is an excellent cross country ski facility with challenging and easier groomed trails. Amazing set up for anyone that loves to skate ski and head down some hills. There is also a cozy hut with a fireplace, where you can warm up and heat up a meal in between.
Experiencing the island on a paddle board should be on your to do list. Jeremy and his crew cover a large area with their service and they are a lot of fun. They offer hourly rentals and full on guided tours on paddle boards. Some personal favorites are the Margaree River tour and Cheticamp beach at sunset.
Jimmie Pedersen is an extremely personable and knowledgeable fishing guide. He has fished for salmon all over the world and wants to share his knowledge with you. Whether you are an experienced fly fisherman or a complete novice, he will create a memorable day for you. His guiding services are available on the Cheticamp, Margaree and Middle river.
Lee and his brother Liam run this awesome camping outfitting company in Margaree Forks. They have everything to cover your camping needs. It's a really cool option for anyone that does not own a lot of gear and wants to just get away from it all on their stay here on the island.
Mark has been offering whale tours since a long time. His tours are very informative and you can choose between a zodiac or a bigger boat with a great viewing platform. The scenery along Pleasant Bay is spectacular and often you will get to see Pollet's Cove and Fishing cove from the ocean, along with seals and other wildlife.
This outfit has a branch in Cheticamp and Pleasant Bay. Being on a zodiac is a great experience, as it brings you much lower to the water's surface so that you can find yourself quite close to the whales. They also offer snorkeling with whales which is a really fun experience.
With a really good location and a very experienced staff, this is a great kayaking outfitter. Angelo Spinazzola offers a variety of tours and packages for all levels of experience. He can be hired as a guide for different regions across the island and he will more than likely bring his guitar along for entertainment.
