Warming up at a Spa - A Winter Wish
Today I’m dreaming of being steamed in a Finnish sauna, slowly thawing from this deep winter chill. You know the kind, made of beautiful cedar wood, that smells like you’ve just stepped into a western red cedar forest; a sauna that is so hot - all the winter cold melts away.
Luckily there’s a spa here on Cape Breton Island that has such a place! Roman and I checked it out in the autumn and absolutely loved every minute of it. The Keltic Lodge has a spa fully equipped with indoor whirlpools, steam showers and Finnish saunas. They have the spa divided into male and female rooms, to make it more comfortable for individuals. Outside they have a hot-tub with a view of the mountains. I recall sitting out there and the snow was falling (yes it was autumn and snow was falling, that’s just life here in Cape Breton) and just taking in the stunning view. The fall colours had the mountains completely illuminated. I felt incredibly blessed to have just finished hiking and biking the trails in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and then to be warming up outside, surrounded by such beauty.
They also have several other awesome services at the spa. Check out the Keltic Lodge Spa full offering here. You can choose to use the spa even if you’re not staying at the Keltic Lodge and they have really decent rates. The only catch about this spa is that it’s not open in the winter season. Although they’re working on having it operational during the cold season it’s just not there yet, so alas, I’ll have to wait until spring for that sauna.
