Cycling 'Fresh Water Lake' in Ingonish, Cape Breton Highlands National Park

Cycling 'Fresh Water Lake' in Ingonish, Cape Breton Highlands National Park

This fall, Cecilia and I spent a weekend in Ingonish to get in as much hiking and biking as possible. We ended up camping at the Broad Cove campground. Of course for breakfast we hit up the Periwinkle cafe. It’s our go to spot for food and a hot cup of something when we are on that side of the island. Just a quaint, cozy atmosphere and high quality everything.

When it comes to the cycling that we did that weekend, we were really taken by the fresh water lake trail. Mind you, it’s neither a difficult or long trail, but it has a really nice vibe to it. It kind of reminded us of some of the trails we biked in Yosemite National Park.

A good chunk of the trail takes you along the lake and it’s just super relaxing. You also get to soak in some ocean views at the beginning. We were also lucky enough to be there when the fall colors were still peaking and it made the whole thing even better.

There is also little off trail section that is more challenging for a mountain bike and is pretty fun.

Again, this is not a challenging trail by any means. But it is definitely one you should bike if you’re in the area!
