Cycling 'Broad Cove Road' in Dunvegan, Cape Breton

Cycling 'Broad Cove Road' in Dunvegan, Cape Breton

We have so many incredible trails on this island. If there was one thing I could change, then it would be to create more trails along the coast. Given the amount of coastline in Cape Breton, there really are not that many hiking and cycling trails that hug the coast for a long stretch.

Well this place has it. It is a dirt road, but it makes for a beautiful bike ride along the coast. There is usually not very much car traffic here and when you do meet someone they are going pretty slow most of the times. It is not an extremely challenging ride, although there are a few climbs and definitely some bumps that will keep you awake.

One pretty neat feature of this trail is the Buffalo farm that you come across about half way. If you are lucky, they will be near the fence so you can go and watch them from up close.

The coastline in this area is rather special and is the reason why there are now two high end golf courses in Inverness. ‘Cabot Cliffs’ is pretty close to the end of the road and has become a poster child for Cape Breton and Nova Scotia.

We highly recommend this bike ride if you're looking for a fairly relaxed ride along the ocean. Our favourite time to bike this is later in the day an then hit up the Public House for supper and some drinks with friends!
