Biking Cheticamp Island

Biking Cheticamp Island

Personally, this is my favorite bike ride, if I am looking for a relaxing evening spin. The section close to the radio tower consists of a grassy path that circles around the tip and it has a few short steep hills. Once you’re on top of the hill, you can just come down the dirt road, but there is actually a really nice hiking trail that winds through a wooded area. This section is really fun on a bike and a bit more challenging as you’re going over roots and some smaller rocks.

I haven’t timed the whole section, but my guess it’s just about 20 minutes. Usually I combine the ride with some road biking on the island. You could also connect it with hitting the dirt road going towards the lighthouse. This would give you really nice views of the harbour, the village of Cheticamp and the highlands. It could turn into a long bike ride if you head to the Lighthouse and bike past it along the ocean.

There is a group of us, who are trying to push for developing a trail that goes from one end of the island to the other along the ocean and the forest. The trail actually already exists, but it need to be cleaned up. It would create a beautiful trail ride with really nice views so let’s hope we can make it happen!
